Climate deniers and the far right could have a field day in Parliament this Friday unless your MP turns up to the CAN Bill’s Second Reading on 24 January. Last week, Nigel Farage and Liz Truss attended a climate sceptic group launch. On Monday, Donald Trump, who’s pledged to “drill, baby, drill”, was inaugurated as President. He immediately pulled the US out of the Paris Agreement and is rolling back on environmental commitments. Climate deniers are spreading lies about the Bill, and feeling energised in Westminster, meaning we need as many MPs as possible to stand and be counted at the CAN Bill’s pivotal Second Reading this Friday. If we don’t, Farage, Reform and ‘bill blockers’ will talk the Bill out—meaning there’ll be no vote, no conclusion, and the Bill will fall. The good news? We have the numbers to prevent this from happening—but, if, and only if, our 195 cross-party supporters show up, take part to advance the Bill. We need your help. Will you email your MP now, asking them to (1) let you know that they’ll be there on Friday to support the CAN Bill, and (2) put in to speak at the debate? This is serious. If they have to cancel their plans, so be it. |
