According to Associated Press (AP), Austria will introduce Climate Income from July 2022. The initial carbon price will be €30 per tonne of CO₂ rising to €55 per tonne in 2025. The dividend will be €100 per person per year with children receiving a half dividend. AP also report that there will be some regional variations in the dividend to, for example, compensate more those living in rural areas.

This exciting development is the result of the Austrian Green Party being part of the coalition government with the conservative People’s Party since the beginning of last year. I think this shows the importance of getting support for Climate Income from every organisation we can; you never know when they might be in a position of influence!
